Shelties are gentle, sweet, and eager to please. They are playful, affectionate, and highly attuned to the mood of their household. They make great family pets and are well-suited for families with children and other pets. However, as herding dogs, Shelties require a lot of physical and mental stimulation. They are highly intelligent and easy to train, making them excellent competitors in conformation, obedience, agility, rally, and herding trials. They can also be trained as medical alert, service, and therapy dogs.
